The Jenoptik Defense & Civil Systems division supplies alternators and power units for locomotives to Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland.
Jenoptik has co
ncluded f
ramework agreements with a total volume of more than six million euros with three European rail vehicle manufacturers. The company will equip over one hundred locomotives and electric locomotives with generators and in part also with power units. These energy systems are developed and produced at the Altenstadt location in Germany. Due to their high power density and reliability the alternators and power units are ideally suited for demanding enviro
nments such as rail transport wher they ensure more mobility and efficiency.
“With these framework agreements we have moved an important step further towards successfully exploiting the growth opportunities in the future market of railway technology at an international level”, reports Jenoptik President & CEO Michael Mertin. “These long-term co-operations also recognize our reliability and innovative strength we have shown to date. Our modern energy system solutions meet the rising demand of global railway operators for efficient and environmentally friendly energy systems for rail vehicles.”
In the energy systems area, the Jenoptik Defense & Civil Systems division in Germany supplies subsystems and components for both military as well as civil applications. Jenoptik has been successfully operating in the field of power supply for trains for several years and supplies alternators and power units with different power ranges for retrofitting projects as well as for new trains.
At the end of 2014 Jenoptik received the order to produce gensets for the on-board power supply ofpassenger trains of the Turkish state railway.
about Jenoptik and the Defense & Civil Systems division
As an integrated photonics group, Jenoptik operates in the five divisions Lasers & Material Processing, Optical Systems, Industrial Metrology, Traffic Solutions and Defense & Civil Systems.
The Defense & Civil Systems division develops, produces and distributes mechatronic and sensor systems for civil and military applications. The portfolio ranges from individual assemblies, which customers then integrate into their systems, through to complete systems and end products. The division’s areas of competence are energy systems, optical sensor systems, stabilization systems, aviation subsystems as well as radomes & composites. Top-quality customer service ensures that the products are supported over their useful lives, which generally extend over many years.
The mechatronic products are used in drive, stabilization and energy systems for military and civil vehicle, rail and aircraft equipment. The competencies also extend across the technical focus areas of software development, metrology and control systems. The sensor systems include infrared camera systems and laser rangefinders and are primarily used in automation technology, environmental metrology, security technology and military reconnaissance.
